Medal struck to commemorate the Royal visit to Manchester, 10 October 1851. The obverse features the diademed bust of Queen Victoria facing left and the inscription 'VICTORIA QUEEN OF GREAT BRITAIN.' Around the outermost edge is a wreath made up of an olive branch to the right and a branch of roses, shamrocks and thistles representing England, Ireland and Scotland, interlaced to the left. The reverse features an image of the Royal procession crossing a bridge over the river into the city of Manchester with text below within a central ring. A horizontal bar divides the image from text and bears the name of the designer, 'J. G. Grundy', and the engravers, 'Allen & Moore'. The inscription reads '10 OCTr 1851/ JOHN POTTER ESQ MAYOR'. The inscription around the outside reads 'IN COMMEMORATION OF THE VISIT OF HER MOST GRACIOUS MAJESTY QUEEN VICTORIA & HRH PRINCE ALBERT TO MANCHESTER'. A hole has been pierced in the top and a ring is attached for suspension, this is not part of the original design.
