Description:
German States - Prussian copper 4 pfenninge, 1868
Diameter 26mm
The obverse features the denomination above the date. The inscription 'SCHEIDE MUNZE' is arched around the top. The term 'Scheide munze' tells us that the four pfenninge coin was part of a fractional coinage. At the base is the mintmark for Cleve, 'C'. The reverse features a crown above a shield. The shield bears the eagle from the Prussian Coat of Arms. It is holding a sceptre in its right talon and an orb in its left. The inscription reads '90 EINEN THALER' referring again to the fractional value of the pfenninge. In this case 90 four pfenninge coins are equal to one thaler.
