English silver four pence/groat, 1836


Diameter 15mm


The obverse features the bust of William IV facing right and the inscription 'GULIELMUS IIII D:G: BRITANNIAR: REX F:D:', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'William IV By the Grace of God King of the Britains Defender of the Faith'. The reverse features Britannia seated and facing right, she holds Posiedon's trident in her left hand and her right hand rests on a shield at her side which bears the Union Flag. The date is below and the denomination is inscribed around the outside.
