Description:

Papal States Vatican, copper baiocco, 1850

Diameter 29mm

The obverse features the coat of arms of the Holy See. This consists of the crown with two keys underneath that are interlaced at the rings. This is combined with a shield bearing the coat of arms of Pope Pius IX. The inscription reads 'PIUS.IX.PONT./MAX.ANN.VI.', Latin for 'Pope Pius IX Year Six'. The reverse features the inscription '1 BAIOCCO 1850'. The letter 'R' is the mintmark for Rome. The outermost decoration is a full wreath.
