Description:

Prussian silber (silver) 2 1/2 groschen, 1843

Diameter 20mm

The obverse features the bust of Friedrich Wilhelm IV facing right and the inscription 'FRIEDR. WILH. IV KOENIG V. PREUSSEN', 'Friedrich Wilhelm IV King of Prussia'. The reverse features the denomination above the date and the mintmark for Berlin, 'A', is below. The inscription around the outside reads '12 EINEN THALER/ SCHEIDE MUNZE' indicating that the silber groschen is a fractional coinage and that 12 silber groschen are equal to one thaler.
