Description:

French bronze five centimes, 1854

Diameter 24mm

The obverse features the bust of Emperor Napoleon III facing left. His image appears within a ring of dots. Under the bust is the name Barre, possibly the designer or engraver. Around the outside is the inscription 'NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR' with the date below. To the left of the date is a dogs head and to the right is a hand. Both of these are Parisian Privy Marks meaning that the coin was minted in Paris. The reverse features an eagle and the Parisian mintmark 'A'. The inscription around the outside reads 'EMPIRE FRANCAIS/ CINQ CENTIMES'. This is divided by two stars.
