Description:

English copper penny, fourth issue, 1806

Diameter 33mm

The obverse features the draped laureate bust of George III facing right with the date below. The inscription reads 'GEORGIUS III.D:G.REX', Latin, abbreviated for 'George III By the Grace of God, King'. The reverse features Britannia seated facing left. She has a shield at her side bearing the Union Flag and holds an olive branch in her right hand. Britannia is depicted sitting on rocks by the sea and carrying Poseidon's trident in her left hand, there is also a ship on the horizon to her left. The inscription reads 'BRITANNIA'. Below her shield is the Soho mintmark. This coin is part of the fourth and last issue in the reign of George III.
