Description:

Irish copper penny, 1685

Diameter 25mm

The obverse features the laureate draped bust of James II facing left and the inscription 'JACOBUS II DEI GRATIA', Latin for 'James II By the Grace of God'. The reverse features a harp with a crown above it, the date is inscribed two digits to the left and two digits to the right of the crown. The inscription reads 'MAG.BRIT.FRA.ET.HIB.REX', Latin abbreviated meaning 'King of Great Britain, France and Ireland'.
