English copper farthing, 1694

Diameter 23mm


The obverse features the laureate busts of William and Mary facing right with William to the fore. The inscription reads 'GULIELMUS ET MARIA', Latin for 'William and Mary'. The reverse features Britannia seated and facing left. She holds a spear in her left arm which rests on a shield. In her right hand she holds an olive branch aloft. The inscription reads 'BRITANNIA'. The date below is obscured on this example by a pierced hole.
