Description:Bottle of Surgical Spirit from Wyleys Ltd Wholesale and Manufacturing Chemists, Coventry. Surgical Spirit is made from ethanol and methanol and is used to sterilise surfaces and to cleanse skin abrasions and sores. This bottle is from the Royal Pump Rooms, Leamington Spa, and was probably used in the physiotherapy department. The bottle was produced after 1970 as it has the standards mark of the BPC - The British Pharmacopeia Commission - which was established in 1970. The directions on the label: 'The BNF orders this formula to be dispensed unless otherwise directed', refer to the British National Formulary which advises healthcare professionals on the selection and use of medicines.
