Description:This applicator lamp was attached to a Microtron microwave therapy unit. It was used in physiotherapy treatments at the Royal Pump Rooms, Leamington Spa. The microwave therapy unit used deep heat to treat parts of the body that were injured, stiff, painful or inflamed. The applicator lamp contained three antennae, these were placed 10-20cm from the affected part of the patient's body. The waves passed through the antennae and a few centimetres into the body, before they were absorbed. Heat was then released into the body tissue.
