Description:This is a headband from a Xhosa speaking tribe in South Africa. It is made from green and red glass beads, cotton and leather.
Within South African culture beadwork ornaments were made by the women, and worn by both men and women. The beads often had symbolic meaning. This headband was worn across the forehead of a young girl to indicate her engagement to be married.
