Description:This is a plaster cast of one half of a Roman diptych. It was specially cast for Mr F. H. Jahn from the original at the Victoria and Albert Museum. A diptych is formed of two panels, and the second half of this diptych is in Paris. Both original parts were found at the bottom of a well at Moutier-en-Dei, France, and at one time formed the doors of the relinquary of St Berchaine. "SYMMACHORUM" is engraved along the top, referring to the Roman Symmachi family.
