Description:A letter to Mary thanking her for informing her of her father Reverend John Sibree's death. Transcript: The Priory, 21, North Bank Regents Park. April 10. 77 My dear Mrs. Cash I thank you sincerely for associating me with an event which is full of the tenderest memories for you & your Brother. Not of grief. For your Father's long & well-filled life seems to me to have been thoroughly cheerful & cheering, & your account of his death shows that the long bright day had such an ending as one would have wished for. I trust that your silence about the family round your own hearth is a sign of untroubled health & peace. Please thank your Brother for me that he remembers me with friendly interest. I cannot just now improve upon the news he heard of us from our friends at Barr's Hill, for I am still in a troublesome & fluctuating state of health, & Mr Lewes, though his activity has returned, is a good deal tormented with headache. But we are enjoying our lives nonetheless - which shows that we have less than our share of mortal ills. He remembers you with much pleasure, & is glad to be borne in mind by you in return. Always, dear Mrs. Cash, Yours affectionately M. E. Lewes Note: George Eliot (born Mary Ann Evans) was a local authoress based in the Coventry and Nuneaton district, from 1819-1880.
