Description:Westminster, and Whitehall Palace in Shakespeare's time.

To the west of the city of London, reached by road through semi-rural suburbs or by river boat, lay the centre of government at Whitehall Palace and Westminster Hall. The London base for the royal court of Queen Elizabeth I, and later King James I, lay at Whitehall, the palace built by King Henry VIII. Here the monarch lived, surrounded by members of the nobility serving as politicians, and courtiers.
