Description:A scene begins as Hamlet enters an empty stage: in Shakespeare's 'First Folio'. Many of the ‘quarto’ texts, and some of those in the 'First Folio' edition, of the plays were printed without Act and Scene divisions. These often record how the productions appeared on stage, moving seamlessly from one speech to the next. The divisions into acts and scenes were introduced later, making it easier for a reader to follow the plot as it unfolded on the page. Full title: William Shakespeare, Mr William Shakespeares comedies, histories & tragedies published according to the True Originall Copies, London, printed by Isaac Jaggard, and Ed[ward] Blount, 1623. The 'Ashburnham' copy owned by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
