Description:A ‘morocco’ binding chosen by a ‘collector’.

The scarlet goatskin and gold tooling of this binding, created by Francis Bedford, was finished in the late nineteenth-century for the volume’s owner Sir Charles Chadwyck-Healey. This handsome work would have replaced the original, probably plain leather cover of the book.

Full title: Geoffrey Chaucer, Workes, London, Adam Islip, 1602.
