Description:Title page information about Shakespeare's the play of King Lear. This 'quarto' page is from the edition with a false earlier date on the title-page, published by Thomas Pavier without the permission of the Stationer's Company. The title-page of the ‘quarto’ of King Lear not only summarises the plot, but also explains that the play has been popular, at the King’s Men’s regular theatre the Globe, and that it was performed at court on the day after Christmas (St Stephen’s day). Full title: William Shakespeare, his true chronicle history of the life and death of King Lear and his three daughters. As was plaid before the Kings Majesty, [London], printed [by William Jaggard] for Nathaniel Butter, 1608 [1619].
