Description:The source for Richard III. One of Shakespeare's earliest plays, written about 1592, was The Tragedy of Richard III, for which the main source was Holinshed's Chronicles, but which in turn was based on Edward Hall's The Union of the Two Noble and Illustre families of Lancaster and York (1548). Full title: Raphael Holinshed, The first and second volumes of chronicles[The thirde volume, etc.]... Now newlie augmented and continued... to the yeare 1586 by Iohn Hooker alias Vowell Gent. and others... [London] at the expenses of Iohn Harison, George Bishop, Rafe Newberie, Henrie Denham and Thomas Woodcocke, 1587.
