Description:The translator's dedication of a Shakespeare edition repeated in a later edition. In his dedication to Queen Elizabeth, Sir Thomas North recognized her especial interest in the classics. He called her the ‘Muse of the World’, and asked her protection for his book, which, with no false modesty, he described as ‘a work of great learning and wisdom’. Full title: Plutarchus The lives of the noble Grecians and Romaines compared together Plutarch of Chaeronea. Translated out of Greeke into French by James Amiot, Abbot of Bellozane with the lives of Hannibal and Scipio African translated out of Latine into French by Charles de l'Escluse and out of French into English by Sir Thomas North, knight.
