Description:A printer’s ornament known to Shakespeare. Each Elizabethan printer used a personal ‘device’ on the title page of his work. Richard Field, the printer who came from Stratford, used a decorative anchor on most of the books he printed, including this edition of 'North’s Plutarch'. Full title: Plutarch, The lives of the noble Grecians and Romaines compared together Translated out of Greeke into French by James Amiot... and out of French into English by Sir Thomas North, Imprinted at London by Richard Field for Thomas Wight, 1603.
