Description:A French text translated by an associate of Shakespeare. English born, John Florio, son of a protestant Italian refugee, was tutor to Lady Jane Grey, and later to Shakespeare’s patron Henry Wriothesley, Earl of Southampton. Florio attended Oxford University, and wrote two Italian grammars First Fruites, (1578) and Second Fruites, (1591) and the impressive English Italian dictionary, the Worlde of Words in 1598. He also translated Montaigne’s Essayes from the French, and may himself have been the inspiration for the character of the schoolmaster, Holofernes, in Loves Labour's Lost.
