Description:Homilies : life-style advised for Shakespeare and his contemporaries.

All children would accompany their parents to church each Sunday, where they would hear the readings from the Bible, and also the sermons or Homilies which had been appointed to be read in churches from the time of Archbishop Cranmer in 1551. These were revised and reissued by Queen Elizabeth in 1563 and at intervals throughout her reign. The homilies explained the preferred Christian way of everyday life, such as caring for the poor. They were also useful to clergy who needed guidance in their preparation of sermons.
