Description:A photographic portrait of Frances Evelyn, Countess of Warwick, popularly known as Daisy.
She is dressed as the ill-fated French Queen Marie Antoinette, for a costume ball, Bal Poudre, in 1895.
Frances became famous for staging lavish occasions such as this, in her home at Warwick Castle, and was also noted for her close friendship with Edward, Prince of Wales, who would become King Edward VII.
Bal Poudre means literally 'Powdered Ball' - this was a lavish recreation of a ball at the French Court in the 18th century, when the fashion for powdered wigs was high fashion.
