Description:The original vase (now in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow) was excavated around 1769 from the villa of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. It was purchased a few years later by Charles Greville, 2nd Earl of Warwick, from William Hamilton, who had been trying in vain to sell it to the British Museum. It stood for a few years in the courtyard and then for nearly 200 years in the specially designed conservatory.
A replica of the Warwick Vase, now stands in the conservatory at Warwick Castle.
