Description:This plate bears a transfer-print reproduction of the Droeshout engraving of Shakespeare, taken from the title-page of the 'First Folio. It was commissioned by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

The Shakespeare Anniversary Council cited by the inscription on the reverse of this plate was formed in 1961, in order to plan the Quatercentenary celebrations. The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust played an important part in its inception.
