Description:

Greek copper five lepta, 1869

Diameter 25mm


The obverse features the bust of George I facing left. There is an inscription in Greek around the outside and the date is below. Directly below the bust is the name 'Bappe', possibly that of the designer or engraver. At either side of the date are the Privy Marks of an anchor, for the Engraver General of Paris, and a cross, for the Mint Director of Strasbourg. The reverse features the date in Greek within a wreath that is tied at the base with a bow. There is another Greek word above and the mintmark for Strasbourg, 'BB', is below.
