Medal struck in comemmoration of Robert Raikes and the Sunday School Movement. The obverse features the bust of Robert Raikes facing left within a central ring and the inscription reads 'CENTENARY OF SUNDAY SCHOOLS 1880/ ROBERT RAIKES'. The reverse features the inscription 'CENTENARY/ OF/ SUNDAY/ SCHOOLS/ 1880' within a banner bearing a passage from the Bible, 'Jesus Said Suffer the Little Children to Come Unto Me', with the Bible above. Robert Raikes was a philanthropist and Anglican laymen who initiated the Sunday School Movement in the 18th Century.
