Birmingham silver medal, 1896
Width 30mm
Medal struck to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria whose sixty year reign had become the longest on record of any single British Monarch. The obverse features the diademed bust of Queen Victoria in gold leaf. The four branches bear the inscription 'DIAMOND/ JUBILEE/ 1837/ 1897'. The reverse features the inscription 'IN/ COMMEMORATION/ OF THE/ DIAMOND JUBILEE/ OF/ QUEEN VICTORIA/ JUNE 1897'. There are also four hallmarks. A makers mark, 'H. B. S', the City of Birmingham mark of an anchor, the sterling silver mark of a lion, and the date mark 'w' (1896).
