Description:

Belgian silver 50 centimes, 1901

Diameter 17mm

The obverse features the bust of Leopold II (1865-1909) facing left. The inscription reads 'LEOPOLD II KONING DER BELGEN', Dutch meaning 'King Leopold II of Belgium'. The reverse, difficult to make out on this example, features a lion with its paw on the Beligian Constitution. Underneath is the denomination, '50 CEN' (centimes), and the name 'VINGOTTI', possibly that of the designer or engraver. The date is to the left and the inscription around the top is the Belgian national motto, 'EENDRACHT MAAKT MACHT', Dutch meaning 'strength through unity.
