The obverse features the laureate bust of James II facing left. The inscription reads 'IACOBUS. II. DEI. GRATIA', Latin meaning, 'James II By the Grace of God'. The reverse features the number three in Roman Numerals topped by a crown. The inscription reads 'MAG.BR.FR.ET.HIB.REX.1687', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'King of Great Britain, France and Ireland'.
