Description:

German copper-nickel 10 pfennig, 1875

Diameter 20mm

The obverse features a large central '10' with 'PFENNIG' inscribed below. Around the outside are the words 'DEUTSCHES REICH 1875'. The reverse features the coat of arms for the German Empire (1871-1918). This consists of a large eagle with a crown above bearing a shield with a smaller eagle on its chest. The smaller eagle holds a sceptre and orb in its claws and also bears a shield on its chest. The 'H's at either side of the eagle's tail are the mintmark for Darmstadt.
