Manchester token, 1845

Diameter 16mm

The obverse features the inscription 'FREE TRADE HALL MANCHESTER 1845'. There is an ear of corn on either side. The reverse features a bundle of corn and the inscription 'NATIONAL ANTI CORN LAW LEAGUE'. The Corn Law was a hugely unpopular bill regulating the trade in grain and was repealed in 1846.
