Medal struck to commemorate the preliminaries of peace between Britain and France before the Treaty of Amiens in March 1802. France had declared war on the United Kingdom in 1793 during the French Revolution. The obverse features a shield bearing the Union Flag with two swords crossed behind and the inscription 'PRELIMINARIES OF PEACE/ BETWEEN/ GREAT BRITAIN AND FRANCE/ SIGNED/ OCTOBER 1st 1801'. The reverse features a female classical figure, possibly Eirene the Goddess of Peace, standing at a Quay holding the cornucopia in her left arm and an olive branch in her right hand. In the background at sea are three rigged ships and goods labelled 'To France' wait on the quay. Four ears of corn are crossed, two over two, at the base and the inscription around the top reads, 'THEY SHALL PROSPER THAT LOVE THEE'.
