My dear Miss Wedgwood

It happens that for next Thursday we have made an engagement with some friends in the country. I am sorry for this little perversity in things. But I hope you may not find it difficult to fix on another day when I may have the pleasure of seeing you. On Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday in next week I expect to be quite at liberty, & if you will kindly send me word whether you can give me a little of your time on either of those days, I shall feel it again to keep the afternoon clear of other engagements.

Believe me

Sincerely yours

M. E. Lewes

Note: George Eliot (born Mary Ann Evans) was a local authoress based in the Coventry and Nuneaton district, from 1819-1880.
