Description:This drawing, commissioned by the scholar Edmund Malone, is a copy of the Chandos Portrait (c. 1610). On the reverse is written, in Malone's hand, his opinion that it is a very faithful copy and invaluable. He thinks that Shakespeare was about 43 when the portrait was painted.
