Date:1824 - 1874 (c.)

Description:This is an oil painting on canvas depicting a distant view of Windsor Castle. It is signed 'Norton' (or perhaps 'Morton') at the bottom left, and was painted between 1800 and 1900.
It may have been painted before the 'modernisation' of the castle in 1824. But the gentleman in the carriage wearing a plumed hat is thought to be the Duke of Connaught (third son of Queen Victoria), in which case the painting cannot be earlier than 1874, when he was given the title. The three figures on the right seem to wear American Army uniforms dating from the war of 1812. Framed size Height 905mm, Width 1465mm, Depth 84mm.
