Description:This 18th century household book contains 248 food, drink, medicinal and beauty recipes. The name 'Mary Wise' is written on the parchment cover.

Mary Tilson married the second surviving son of Royal gardener, Henry Wise, in 1732. Her father-in-law owned a substantial amount of property including the Priory, Warwick, and the manors of Lillington, Woodcote and Woodloes which he purchased in 1709. Mary died in 1760.

Leaf 8 contains 'A Most Excellent Medicine against the Plague' and 'To Make Cheese Cakes'.

Leaf 20 contains recipes for making 'Almond Milk' for use on the face, and for drying and smoking beef.

Leaf 25 contains one recipe that has been crossed out, a recipe for recovering 'old sweetmeats' and another for 'New Colledge make Shifts'.
