Date:8th of June 1855

Description:A letter written by Lieutenant George Henry Waller and sent from 'the Camp before Sebastopol'to his father, Thomas. Lieutenant Waller was serving in the Crimean War and in the letter he describes a major engagement, involving attacking the Mamelon and the Quarries (enemy held positions.) He has been hit by grapeshot but is recovering and feels he has been lucky to survive.

George Henry Waller sailed to the Crimea in 1854, aged just 17. He became a successful career soldier and went on to inherit the Woodcote Estate, Leek Wootton, in 1888.
