Randolph Turpin was born in Leamington Spa in 1928. With his brothers he took up boxing, and was managed by George Middleton. On the 10th July 1951 Turpin defeated Sugar Ray Robinson to win the World Middleweight Boxing title championship. His victory was celebrated in his home town of Leamington Spa, and crowds of people came to see him at the Town Hall.
