Description:

A round metal and enamel badge. In the centre of the badge is an image of a boxer depicted in enamel. Around the edge there is a blue enamel band with the inscription: 'THE FIGHTING TURPINS'. On the reverse there is a pin for attaching the badge to clothing, and the makers stamp of Mingware, Birmingham.

Randolph Turpin was born in Leamington Spa in 1928. With his brothers he took up boxing, and was managed by George Middleton. On the 10th July 1951 Turpin defeated Sugar Ray Robinson to win the World Middleweight Boxing title championship. His victory was celebrated in his home town of Leamington Spa, and crowds of people came to see him at the Town Hall.
