Description:The Defence Medal was awarded for non-operational service during the Second World War. Those in receipt of the medal were: service personnel working in headquarters, on training bases and airfields, and members of the Home Guard. The obverse of the medal shows the uncrowned head of King George VI. On the reverse is the Royal Crown above an oak tree and flanked by two lions. The red flanked by green on the ribbon symbolises enemy attacks on Britain's 'green and pleasant land' and the black lines indicate the Blackout.
