Bill Woodrow

Typewriter And Tennis Court, 1981

Ink on handmade paper

310mm x 250mm

This work consists of two pieces of handmade paper on top of each other. In the centre of the bottom page is a red ink drawing of a typewriter which can be seen through a torn opening in the top piece of paper. Woodrow has drawn a tennis court on top piece of paper. Both images appear to be mirrored in a surreal manner.

Born in Henley, Oxfordshire in 1948, Bill Woodrow studied at Winchester College of Art (1967-68), Saint Martins School of Art (1968-71), and Chelsea School of Art (1971-72). He lives and works in London and is a member of the Royal Academy.
