Description:
Alma Ramsey (1907-1993)
Mother and Child, 1980
Marble
630mm x 285mm
The sculptor Alma Ramsey studied at the Royal College of Art, 1927-30. She was taught by Gilbert Ledward and Henry Moore and was much influenced by their emphasis on direct carving in wood and stone. Early in her career the human body was a major inspiration and this work depicts the form of a mother holding her child. Although it is relatively small it possesses the strength of a monumental sculpture.
