Green Landscape

Acrylic on canvas

2132mm x 1825mm

Presented by the Trustees of the Chantrey Bequest

Whishaw has been influenced by two strands of art, American Abstract Expressionism and the British Romantic landscape tradition. In his work he seeks to combine abstract form with figuratiuve elements to create 'a parallel experience to reality rather than a description of it'. He avoids replicating specific places, preferring to create a universal impression. Here expressive sweeps of colour across the broad canvas emulate the rolling hills of the English countryside.
