Date:Not Recorded
Description:A small flintlock blunderbuss, probably Indian. It is in poor condition and the lock is crudely made. The frizzen-spring and sear spring are missing. The mainspring is functional. The ramrod pipe and buttplate are brass. The barrel is retained by a crude iron barrel band.
There is evidence from marks on the woodwork that there was another barrel band nearer the muzzle originally. The metal work bears a crude engraving. The lock does not fit the lock recess in the stock, suggesting that it is a replacement. The stock is stamped with oriental type designs but appears to be walnut which suggests that the stock and barrel may originally have been European. However this is countered by the fact that there is no trigger guard, and no inletting in the wood of the stock where the trigger guard would have fitted. The shape and thinness of the barrel suggests that it may have been of European origin.
