Description:One of a pair of high quality, civilian, muzzle-loading, percussion holster pistols, converted from flintlock probably during the 1840's.
The locks have sliding safetey catches and are engraved 'A.H.' (the lock usually has the maker's name, however, it could be the owner's initials re-engraved at the time of conversion to percussion). The barrels are 8 3/8 inches long, browned twist, round-to-octagonal in form with the octagonal breech section modified by flats on the upper angles. The brown pattern on the barrels is not traditional damascus brown but a brown lacquer or varnish, this is commonly called 'sham-dam'. Birmingham proofed.
There is a patent or hook breech with 2 inlaid platinum lines and a platinum vent plug.
The furniture is engraved steel with chequered stock. This is french polished instead of the original oil polish.
