A view of the crossroads of High Street and Church Street in Warwick. St Mary's Church can be seen at the end of the road. There are men and women, horses and carriages on the street. St Mary's Church was established in 1123 by Robert de Newburgh, Earl of Warwick. Extensions were built and improvements made in the 14th and 15th centuries in the Gothic style. The nave and tower had to be rebuilt in the late 17th and early 18th centuries after the original building was damaged by fire in 1694. The church houses the tombs of the Earls of Warwick as well as that of Queen Elizabeth I's favourite, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester.
