Description:
A man receiving Zotofoam Bath treatment at the Royal Pump Rooms, Leamington Spa.
This treatment was used to treat obesity. During the procedure a wooden rack was placed in a bath, which was then partially filled with hot water of about 104 degrees farenheit. An ounce of Zotofoam extract was added to the water and carbonic acid, oxygen or compressed air was passed through the rack. This produced a hot foam of fine bubbles which covered the patient and insulated the body to prevent heat loss. This caused the body temperature to rise and the metabolic rate to increase. Weight was lost through perspiration. This photograph was produced for the Leamington Spa Courier.
