The obverse features a series of symbols within a central beaded ring. The main symbol is the tughra, a calligraphic seal or signature, of Muhammad V. To the right is written 'Reshat', an honorific title. Below both symbols is the year of Muhammad's reign in which the coin was minted, in this case year 5, Hejira date 1331. Around the outside there are three sets of Arabic script separated by two five-pointed stars. Below is a wreath of wheat to the right and olive to the left. The reverse features the denomination, 20 para, within a central beaded ring which is concave at the top. Around the outside are three sets of Arabic script separated by two five-pointed stars. The first section of script, to the left, is the mintname of Constantinople. Below is the Hejira date 1327, the first year of the reign of Muhammad V. The date appears within a rectangle that is pointed at either end, there is a branch of olive to the left and a sheath of wheat to the right.
